TOY DOGS.

The term toy dog refers to a very small dog or breed of dogs, lapdogs are an ancient and important type of toy dog, other types of dog referred to as toy dogs could include Spaniels, certain terriers and Pinschers which have been bred down in size.

Most major dog clubs in the English-speaking world have a toy group, in which they place breeds of dog that the kennel clubs class as toy, depending on size and tradition.

BICHON FRISE.

The Bichon Frise is a small dog with Mediterranean origins, the English name for the breed, Bichon Frise derives from the French, Bichon a poil frise, which means curly lapdog.

THE CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a small dog which is classed as a small dog by the U. K and American Kennel clubs, it originated in the U. K, but its popularity as also grown in America where it is in the top twenty most popular breeds.

THE CHIHUAHUA

The Chihuahua is a breed of small dog which is named after a state in Mexico, from where they are thought to originate. The Chihuahua is the smallest breed of dog recognised by most Kennel clubs, in the U. K and the U.S. A Kennel clubs recognise two breeds of Chihuahua, the Long haired and the Smooth coat.

CHINESE CRESTED

The Chinese Crested is a hairless breed of dog which despite the name, is believed to have originated from Africa. Like most hairless dog breeds, the Chinese Crested comes in two varieties, with or without fur, which come in the same litter.

DACHSHUND

The Dachshund is a long bodied, short legged dog which was developed to flush out badgers and other burrow dwelling animals, there is also a miniature Dachshund.

GRIFFON BRUXELLOIS

The Griffon Bruxellois or Brussels Griffon is a breed of toy dog, named after its city of origin Brussels in Belgium.the breed almost died out during the second world war, but as recently started to grow in popularity again worldwide.

THE HAVENESE

The Havenese is a member of the Bichon family of dogs, which is the national dog of Cuba. A small sturdy and loyal dog which makes an ideal family pet.

THE ITALIAN GREYHOUND.

The Italian Greyhound is the smallest of the Sighthounds, hunting dogs which hunt using sight and speed rather than scent, it is classed as a Toy dog in the U. K and in the U.S.

THE MALTESE.

The Maltese is a breed of small dog which originated from the Mediterranean island of Malta, Sometimes called the Maltese terrier, it as a pure white coat and brown eyes.

THE MINIATURE PINSCHER

Originating in Germany, the Miniature Pinscher is a small sturdy well-balanced dog with a smooth coat. The Miniature Pinscher requires a lot of care and attention and is really for experienced dog owners only.

THE PAPILLON

French for Butterfly, the Papillon is a small breed of spaniel, one of the oldest breeds of toy spaniel its name is derived from the characteristic butterfly look of the long and fringed hair on its ears.

THE PEKINGESE.

The Pekingese is a breed of toy dog originating in China, its name means Lion dog. The breed was favoured by the Chinese Imperial court as both a lapdog and a companion dog.

THE POMERANIAN

The Pomeranian is a breed of small dog of the Spitz type, which is named after the Pomerania region in North West Poland and North East Germany. Queen Victoria owned a Pomeranian and the breed became popular during her reign.

THE POODLE .

Poodles come in three different sizes, standard, miniature and toy, they are one of the smartest breeds of dog. The origin of the Poodle is still up for debate, with a prominent dispute or whether the Poodle descends from Germany as a sort of water dog or from the French Barbet.

THE SHIH TZU

Developed in China the Shih Tzu originated from the Tibetan plateau, they are a sturdy small dog with large dark eyes, and they have a soft long double coat.
